I am so excited to start this month with a declutter challenge. Let’s dive in.
It is an old saying that ‘less is more’. This translates to many meanings depending on the angle from which you look at it.
When less is more means the less you look, the more you see.
Also, less is more may mean the less you talk, the more you learn.
Less is more sometimes equal to the less you spend, the more you save.
AND when less is more translates to the less you have, the more you become.
The last instance has a more elaborate meaning which is, the lesser you have to deal with, the more you are able to be what you wish to become.
The above analysis sums up the meaning of declutter for the purpose of this challenge. I want us to free up space both physical and non physical to allow room for more productive tasks, more useful items and beautiful emotions.
This challenge will run for 7 days (one week) and it never expires. This means that it starts for you anytime you sign up for it.
The focus declutter areas are
Facebook & phone book
The 7th area will be revealed shortly and it’s the most important.
You will have one day to complete each declutter area.
What are your goals for this week? Did you break them into smaller tasks that you can easily accomplish? As my contribution to your efforts, I have put together the following affirmations to help you have a productive week. Enjoy!
1. Focus is the new cool
I focus on the job at hand and only multitask if the works are related. E.g. I read while getting my pedicure done but I don’t read while responding to business mails. Here is how to multitask effectively and still maintain high productivity.
2. Out of sight is out of mind
I don’t take office work to my home because I like to concentrate on domestic issues when I’m at home. A strategy I adopt to make this decision work for me is that I do as much as I can in the office and always end the work day with an almost clear desk.
3. Out of sight is not out of mind
I don’t forget that I am a woman with high expectations from the society. So wherever I am, seen or not seen, I do my best to be the best and not a disappointment to those who believe in me. I spend my time on productive activities.
4. Break time is off time
I take my break at its assigned time whether I work remotely or in an office. I know that break time helps me renew my focus on the work at hand. So, when it’s time for a break, I take time off work and try to do nothing for the duration.
5. I take breakfast
I take my breakfast daily at the right time because I know it is the most important meal of the day which gives me the energy to do all that I need to do for that day. It also keeps me healthy and mentally alert.
6. I have to-do!
I have a to-do list which I prepare every morning or the night before to keep me on top of my daily activities. My list is simple and flexible so I can adjust it if the need arises. Keeping my list simple also allows me to complete my tasks easily.
7. I love me
I take good care of myself because I know that selfcare is good for my wellbeing. I eat good food, workout, sleep well and smile often. I also enjoy the good things of life at my disposal.
8. I support women
I know that when women support women big things happen so I support women with the things I know or have at my disposal. I also lend my helping hands because I know that what goes around comes around and as such helping hands will also be stretched towards me when I am in need.
9. I jot!
When I get new ideas, I write them down either in my phone notepad or handy notebook. I jot because I am aware that some of these ideas are gold if I implement them.
10. Collaboration is bae
Girl bosses collaborate not compete. This I know as a fact which is why I am always open for opportunities to get things done with my fellow girl bosses. I am also aware that collaboration is a mutually beneficial event that can help me achieve big results with little effort.
I hope the above affirmations help you improve on productivity and work-life balance this week and beyond. Would you like to add yours to this list? Comment it below.
Even if you work with a top class coach, take productivity classes but still feel demotivated, all your effort might not yield desired results.
The books you read, podcasts you listen to and the bootcamps you attend are available to complement your internal motivation. They are highly effective only if you channel your inner energy and get ready to take the bull by the horns.
It is undeniable that there are moments when you might feel overwhelmed and the desire to keep working might just die. This is why you need to constantly identify what drives you. Your driving factor today might not be very motivating tomorrow. So you need a reminder to keep you on track, that no matter what you will always forge ahead, while remaining positive.
Read my pin of healthy vows and positive vibes below. I hope it inspires you.
1. Good things will always come my way
You need this affirmation every morning to help you appreciate nature and the good things that God gives to you free of charge.
2. I will reap the fruits of my labor
This mindset will make you to always look forward to keep working on what you started till you get the desired results.
3. I have the power to say no to procrastination
When you want to postpone that little task till tomorrow, remember you have the power to do it NOW.
4. I can and I will
Who says you cannot achieve what you set your mind on? Let them know that you can and you will. You just need to take that step today, now matter how minute. Just start it. Do you want to lose weight? Or start a business? Or attend business events for networking opportunities? Or you just want to adopt an organic lifestyle. You can do it and you will do it.
5. The Lord will not burden me beyond my scope
In the book of my faith, God says “And, behold, with every hardship comes ease”. He also says “He does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity”. So why do you want to despair? Just BELIEVE.
6. Others opinion of me is not my reality, I know who I am
People will always talk about you. And you know what? They will not always say positive things about you. Do you want to be bothered? Please don’t. You matter and you are making impacts, that is why people can spare time to talk about you. But you, aren’t you too busy covering grounds to bother about what people choose to spend their time on?
7. I will accept my failures as lessons and always look ahead
Whatever your blues, don’t hold a pity party – Toyin Adekola (yes, I quote too :))
If you’re not careful, you can fall into a destructive cycle of self-pity – Victoria Osteen
Self-pity is never useful. It tends to distort like a fun-house mirror – Anne Roiphe
Really, no one is above mistake. But be careful not to let your mistake turn you into a mess. Accept your failures as fast as you realized you’ve made one. Identify what you did wrong, and promise yourself to do better next time.
8. I will smile always because I know it is good for my health
Yes, smiling is good for your health and it also boosts your brain power. Moreso, it is free. So why not smile? Sadness be gone.
9. I will make healthy food choices always
Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food – Hippocrates
If you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live? – Unknown
You need to eat healthy to function properly and be productive. Good food improves your physical, emotional and mental states. So always make healthy food choices.
10. I will ask for help when I feel overwhelmed
This sums it all up. If you ever feel overwhelmed either by the things you have to do or emotionally, please, please and please, do not hesitate to ask for help. A problem shared is half solved. Always be willing to open up and be ready to accept helping hands when they are stretched towards you.
